Saucy Pasta
Bacon, broccoli, onion and pasta is cooked in a slightly spicy tomato sauce. In the morning, prep, heat then pack it in your Zojirushi food jar and enjoy a hot pasta meal for lunch!
[For 12 oz. Zojirushi Stainless Steel Food Jars]
- 1 slice uncooked bacon
- 1 oz. broccoli florets
- 1.5 oz. penne pasta, dried
- 1 tsp. olive oil
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 Tbsp. onion, minced
- 1/2 cup tomato juice
- 1/4 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
- black pepper to taste
[For 17 oz. Zojirushi Stainless Steel Food Jars]
- 2 slices uncooked bacon
- 1 oz. broccoli florets
- 2 oz. penne pasta, dried
- 2 tsp. olive oil
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup water
- 1-1/2 Tbsp. onion, minced
- 3/4 cup tomato juice
- 1/3 tsp. sugar
- 1/3 tsp. red pepper flakes
- black pepper to taste
*This recipe was developed for 12 oz. and 17 oz. Zojirushi Stainless Food Jars. Adjustments may be required for making this recipe in other Food Jar sizes.
*Please make sure not to overfill the food jar with ingredients, as ingredients will expand with cooking, and may cause the lid to burst.
1. Preheat the food jar by pouring boiling water (not included in the ingredients list). Close the lid and allow to preheat.
2. Slice bacon into 1/2 inch wide pieces. Cut broccoli into small bite-sized pieces.
3. Place pasta, olive oil, salt and water in a small pan. Bring to a boil and cook one minute. Reserve the pasta water.
4.Add remaining ingredients to the pan and bring to a boil. Cook one minute.
5. Discard hot water from the food jar. Fill with prepared pasta until 1/2" below the ridge.
6. Allow pasta to set for a minimum of 1 hour 30 minutes for 12 oz., 1 hour for 17 oz. food jar.
7. Make sure to consume within 6 hours to prevent from spoiling.
8. Enjoy!
